If you haven’t frequented forests and would like to know how forests function, then read Jungle Lore. Jim Corbett in his ever captivating style has vividly detailed his shikar experiences and adventures which turn out to be lessons for anyone who venture into jungles that follow their own rules which people from cities, towns and sometimes even those from the fringes of these jungles do not understand.
Jungle Lore is a sort of auto-biography of Jim Corbett, in which he explains in detail his expeditions of childhood, the incidents that made him a clever hunter. His experiences with catapult, muzzleloader, and regular guns shows his growing grip over the land he wandered. His fearless, adventure seeking nature made him an expert shikari as stealthy as a leopard.
All his experiences, of course, are coated with ideas of conservation which later made him declare that a camera is a better weapon inside a forest than a gun, to preserve these forests for the future generations.

The books brings out the hunter-cum-conservationist’s acute understanding of the intricacies of jungles and that of the tigers. Every ordeal, day and detail expressed vividly by Corbett is worth a bible for those who would venture into the dense jungles of India. While detailing his encounters with the wild cats, Jim Corbett always laces his words with his love for the human beings, especially those who suffer and are at the mercy of nature.

Thrills us to the core. Made me look around for any stalking tiger one night, in the 3rd floor balcony of my apartment in a city!
The book shares not just the story of tigers, but the passion of Jim Corbett for all these creatures, the kind natured man who exposes himself of his good heart when he tries to find all ways to spare a cat before deciding to shoot it down. Walking alone in search of man eaters, spending days and nights waiting over a kill, and surviving all seasons and dangers created by these sometimes clever animals – and the vivid expression of those experiences makes him unique.Its hard to see another person of his stature and gut anymore in India.
The joy of being up all the night till the morning :)
